How we work

Our Approach

Workshop to sprint, self-employment to cooperation, knowledge transfer in focus.

We support our clients in all phases of complex web projects - from consulting and analysis to concept development and implementation. We bring both technical and methodological know-how to our clients' companies in the form of on-site training, certification courses or through our team.

How Do Our Projects Work?

For byte5, project entry takes place in different phases, which requires individual approaches. After all, the focus is on the satisfaction of our customers and the success of the project. What they all have in common is that, in accordance with Lean Thinking, they are oriented towards the existing project bottleneck and aim for a pragmatic solution. As true experts in our core technologies, we master them down to the smallest detail.

1. Step: Workshops & Assessments

A.

In any case, our first step is to accurately assess the current situation. To do this, we work together with all stakeholders in workshops. Because only if we know all the demands of the stakeholders, the technological conditions and the way the company works, can we lead the project to success together.

B.

In addition to projects that are at the very beginning, many of our customers also contact us at a more advanced stage or with systems that are in operation. In such cases, it is important to first identify current bottlenecks and obtain all the necessary information on the existing infrastructure.

Our clients contact us in two situations: either they have a project idea that needs to be implemented, or a project is stuck and urgently needs support. Then I like to talk about byte5 as a project fire brigade.

Step 2: Conceptualisation

Step 3: Tender Preparation

In early project phases, the focus is also on the conception in order to develop a sustainable and optimally coordinated concept together with the customers. The topics range from the selection of the appropriate best-of-breed tools, the software architecture, the design of the digital workflows to resource planning.

After the analysis and initial conceptualisation have been completed, we prepare the tender. Here we take a conservative approach, which means that we estimate budget and time generously in order to avoid subsequent increases, even with an agile approach.

Step 4: Development

Step 5: Sprints

A not inconsiderable part of our business is made up of projects that are stuck for various reasons. Therefore, the ongoing development of the product takes place in parallel to steps 1 to 5. New elements are integrated step by step into the existing project and the old parts are shut down. In this way, bottlenecks can also be solved during ongoing operations and the future of the project can be secured.

This is followed by the technological implementation in various sprints. At the end of these, there are regular retros to keep an eye on the current project status and to plan the next steps in a purposeful and goal-oriented way.

C. Knowledge Transfer

Depending on the methodological and technological maturity of our clients, knowledge transfer plays an important role throughout the entire cooperation. We pass on expertise in specialised areas in

  • workshops,
  • on-site trainings and
  • training courses.

Our goal is not to create artificial dependencies and keep our clients down, but to ensure their happiness and the success of the project. Therefore, we enable them to take over code ownership or advise them on the onboarding of new employees.

Working Together - from Independence to Cooperation

We focus on the needs of our clients. That's why we don't have just one form of cooperation, but a whole range. A distinction can be made between byte5 taking over the entire development and different level of cooperation.

If our clients choose a cooperative approach, this can be organised in different ways depending on the project, the requirements and the people involved. This approach is usually used when there is already an existing development team in the company that is to be supported by our methodological and technological expertise. A very successful and goal-oriented variant for our clients is the formation of cooperative Scrum teams, the roles of which are filled with the experienced staff on the client’s side as well as the byte5 experts.
