Review of our Meetup

Laravel Cloud & Laravel 12

At the last Laravel Meetup in Germany, everything centred around two topics that are currently causing a lot of movement in the community: Laravel Cloud and the new Laravel 12. In a crisp session, we looked at what is behind the releases - and what this means for everyday life as a developer.

If you weren't there live (or just want to watch it again): we recorded both topics and embedded them here (videos in German). There's also a short summary of the content below in English.

🚀 Laravel Cloud: Fully managed and pretty convenient

Laravel Cloud wants to take the hosting setup to the next level: away from self-managed servers - towards a platform where Laravel takes care of (almost) everything. During the live demo, it became clear that the promise of "less than 60 seconds to a live app" is not just a marketing gimmick - it works.

Highlights from our session:

Simple setup: Connect GitHub, select repo - and off you go!

Zero configuration: Databases, caches, storage, domains - everything can be configured directly in the platform with just a few clicks.

Included out of the box: CDN, DDoS protection, auto-scaling, HTTPS, secrets management.

Environments: Production, staging, testing - all separately deployable with their own URLs and even colour-coded.

Cost model: Sandbox is free, but limited. Production environments are subject to a charge - including usage-based billing.

What is still missing (so far):

  • WebSocket support via Laravel Reverb.
  • Granular rights and role system.
  • Two-factor authentication.

Our conclusion: Laravel Cloud is already a real game changer for many projects - especially if you want to have as little to do with server maintenance as possible. A few features are still missing for more complex setups, but the pace of development is impressive.

🔧 Laravel 12: An update without headaches

Laravel 12 is more of a "polish release" than a radical change - and that's a good thing. It brings stability, gentle improvements and a few new tools without shaking up existing applications.

What's new?

  • No breaking changes: If you are on Laravel 11, the upgrade path is extremely smooth.
  • New starter kits: Now with React, Vue + Inertia or Livewire - and more choice in Livewire structure (component-based vs. blade-based).
  • GitHub workflows out of the box: Linting with Pint & automatic tests directly at project start.

Our tip: If you are still using Laravel 9 or 10, you should plan your migration slowly - just because of the security fixes. Feel free to contact us if you need support!
